Garbage Monitoring system launched at Zirakpur dumping ground

The growing garbage problem in Zirakpur has become a significant concern for the Municipal Council, especially as the city’s population surpasses five lakh. On average, several tons of garbage are produced daily, with most of it being dumped at the Bishnupura dumping ground. However, the site has become overwhelmed, as old garbage is not being disposed of properly, leading to a mounting pile. The lack of a concrete system to track the amount of garbage generated in different areas has further compounded the issue.
To address this, the Municipal Council has introduced a new measure by installing a weighing machine at the Bishnupura dumping ground. This machine will weigh the incoming garbage, allowing officials to maintain a record of how much waste is being dumped from each area of the city. By tracking this data, the Municipal Council aims to identify the regions contributing the most waste and take targeted action.
The weighing system will also allow for better monitoring of waste management practices across the city. If certain areas or societies are found to be generating excess garbage, the council plans to encourage local initiatives, urging these communities to manage their waste more effectively. The goal is to promote self-sufficiency in waste disposal, reducing the burden on the central dumping ground and improving overall sanitation in the city. This step is part of a broader effort by the Municipal Council to address waste management challenges in a rapidly growing city like Zirakpur. By implementing these measures, officials hope to create a more sustainable system for garbage disposal while fostering greater accountability among residents and communities.
