A fresh petition has been filed in the Supreme Court on Monday seeking recall of NEET-UG 2024 results. The petition has been filed by two residents of Telengana and Andhra Pardesh.
The petitioner has sought direction to NTA to recall the results of the examination conducted on 5 May and to conduct the examination afresh after issuing due public notice upon revelation at the end of investigation through a report that large number of examinees are bound to be affected by the declaration of results depriving those qualified examinees of just and fair opportunity to compete in seeking admission in college of their choice, it added
The petitioner also sought an a stay on counselling to be held after declaration of results of NEET (U.G.) exam held on 5 May till the investigations on paper leak are completed containing a report about the dimension of such offence and its impact on the number of examinees.
The petitioner also sought formation of a Special Investigation Team for expeditious and thorough investigation of the malpractices and fraud involved in the NEET examination held on 5 May and to secure punishment of those found guilty.
The petitioner said that education system in India always remained an important aspect. However, because of voracity of few citizens the education system started degrading day by day with the use of unfair means in examinations resulting into miscarriage of justice for lacs of Students who sat for the examination, it added.
Petitioner claimed that cheating in entrance exams has far-reaching consequences for society as a whole. It can lead to the selection of incompetent or unqualified individuals in universities, which can have detrimental effects on the students who were preparing for the examination for a long time.
The petitioner further stated that cheating in entrance exams undermines the principles of meritocracy and equal opportunities, which are essential for fostering social mobility and ensuring fairness in society.
The results were declared 4 June wherein 67 Students received full marks, i.e. 720 out of 720, out of which 8 students were from same centre which in itself creates a doubt about the manner in which the exam was conducted.
Moreover, some students have secured 718 and 719 marks which is statically not possible. That there has no defined logic for the grace marks given to the students as well as no list has been shared as per given grace marks to students. The reason for awarding the grace marks is wastage of time, however, the same was never disclosed in the information bulletin before the exam, it added.
There are various petitions filed in different High Courts pertaining to same issue which may lead to multiplicity of proceedings and may result into wasting of precious time of the Courts and because of this reason the Petitioners are filing the present petition so that the issue may be settled by this Court, it added
