BJP leader and former three-time MLA Brahm Singh Tanwar officially joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi on Thursday, with party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal present for the announcement. Kejriwal welcomed Tanwar and his supporters into AAP, highlighting Tanwar’s past representation of Mehrauli twice and Chattarpur once in the Delhi Assembly.

Tanwar expressed his motivation for joining AAP, stating, “I joined AAP after seeing Arvind Kejriwal’s capability and the developmental works done by the AAP government in Delhi. I will work for the development of the people along with Kejriwal. In the next election, AAP will form government in Delhi and I will cooperate with it.” He also mentioned that more of his supporters from the BJP are expected to join AAP soon.

Kejriwal praised Tanwar’s stature, saying, “Today is a very happy day for AAP. Brahm Singh Tanwar ji is a big leader in Delhi. In the last 50 years in different roles in public life, he has been serving the people of Delhi. He has been MLA from Chhatarpur and Mehrauli. He has done development in these areas. He has contributed a lot to the development of Delhi.” He added that although AAP has only been around for 10 to 12 years, more individuals are joining the party due to its ideology and developmental achievements in Delhi and Punjab.

Additionally, AAP sources indicated that Kejriwal plans to campaign for INDIA bloc candidates in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, focusing on assembly seats where AAP has a strong volunteer presence and where MVA candidates are not controversial. Other senior AAP leaders are also expected to participate in these campaigns. Kejriwal, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in March regarding the Delhi excise policy case, was granted bail by the Supreme Court and was released from Tihar Jail last month.
