Arun Sood, the former Mayor of Chandigarh and ex-BJP President, expressed his appreciation for the nationwide celebration of the Shri Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha ceremony, likening it to the exuberance of Diwali. Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call, the entire country embraced the festivities, creating an atmosphere of joy and celebration.
Chandigarh residents mirrored this enthusiasm, celebrating the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha ceremony with devotion and zeal. Arun Sood initiated his day by worshiping Lord Ram, participating in Shri Ram puja archan at the invitation of Mahamandaleshwar Raveena Mahant of the Kinnar community in Dhanas. Subsequently, a langar was organized by the Sector 22 Market Association, featuring a live telecast of the consecration ceremony.
The celebration continued with a Ram Rath Yatra in the industrial area, accompanied by the enthusiastic participation of people and their friends. A Shobha Yatra, led by Mahant Mata Kamli Ji of Shri Mata Temple in Bapudham Sector 26, witnessed fervent participation from the local community, with Varinder JD and colleagues aiding in the organization.
Nominated councilor Dharmendra Singh orchestrated a Ram Katha in Dadua, where 24,000 lamps illuminated the temple. A similar lamp lighting Programme, involving 25,000 lamps, took place in the temple of Sector 19. Shri Ram Katha unfolded at Lakshmi Narayan Mandir in Sector 20, drawing active participation from the community.
A significant Programme unfolded in the Ram Mandir of Sector 24, honoring individuals from Chandigarh associated with the Ram movement from 1990 to 1992. Arun Sood, recognized for his pivotal role in the Ram Mandir movement of 1992, received accolades from the temple committee.
As evening descended, a spectacular firework display illuminated Arun Sood’s residence at 7:30 pm. Youth workers engaged in the festivities, setting off fireworks amid the chanting of Ram Naam. The celebration continued with a Ram Bhajan by Kanwar Rana, Vrishti Deputy Mayor of Budail, followed by a Kirtan in which everyone participated.
Reflecting on the day’s events, Arun Sood conveyed his gratitude to the people of Chandigarh for embracing the celebration with devotion and happiness. He expressed that it was the first time in his life witnessing the entire city immersed in the colors of Ram’s name, with Diwali celebrated with unprecedented significance. With folded hands, he thanked the citizens for their heartfelt participation in the festivities.
