The District Crime Cell arrested a youth on charges of drug trafficking who was preparing for the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) to become an IAS officer in Chandigarh. However, before becoming an officer, he got involved in the drug trafficking business. The accused is an engineer from Jammu University with a BE degree. He had come to Chandigarh for UPSC coaching. The police arrested this BE engineer under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act as part of a special campaign against the drug mafia. During the arrest, 236 grams of heroin were seized from the accused. The arrested youth was identified as Aman Thakur, a resident of Thamoh village, Kilad area, Chamba district, Himachal Pradesh. He was residing in Sector 22/D as a PG resident and preparing for the UPSC. Inspector Jaswinder Singh, in-charge of the District Crime Cell, stated that based on confidential information, the accused was arrested under the NDPS Act. The police registered the case under the NDPS Act at Police Station-17, Chandigarh.
