The Association of Indian American Minorities (AIAM) launched in Maryland with a strong message of unity. Jasdeep Singh Jassi, the President, urged minority communities in the Indian-American diaspora to come together. He stressed that this unity is crucial to counter separatist movements and divisive forces.
“It’s a very special day – it’s the need of the hour,” Jassi said. “Looking at the current scenario – separatist movements in Canada, divides between communities, and attacks on places of worship – it becomes clear that an organisation like ours is essential. We aim to uphold the values of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and India, promoting the idea of a secular and diverse nation where minorities are uplifted.”
Jassi highlighted the association’s focus on collaboration among diverse groups. He explained that AIAM brings together Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, and Jews to build solidarity. “Within this association, we have Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, and Jews working together. When minorities unite, their collective strength becomes immense,” he said.
To ensure long-term success, Jassi emphasized the need to grow globally. He added, “We felt that minorities from India living abroad should come together. If this movement spreads globally, Indian minorities, wherever they reside, will have the opportunity to unite and collaborate.”
Jassi also expressed optimism about the political climate in the U.S. under President Donald Trump. He pointed out how recent election results reflected support from minority communities. “As observed in the recent elections, 52 per cent of Muslim voters supported President Trump, and the Hispanic community also backed him significantly. This suggests a promising future for all communities under his leadership,” Jassi noted.
The launch event took place at the Sligo Seventh-day Adventist Church in Maryland. During the ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honoured with the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Global Peace Award for Minority Upliftment. Though he was absent, the award acknowledged his efforts to improve the welfare of minorities and promote inclusive development in India.
The AIAM aims to create a global platform for minority unity. Jassi believes the movement can inspire Indian minorities worldwide to work together. He sees this as a way to build strength and foster lasting change. With its launch, AIAM has taken the first step toward a more united future.
