External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held productive discussions with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on Wednesday, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation. Jaishankar took to X (formerly Twitter) to share insights from their meeting, stating, “A great meeting with NSA @JakeSullivan46. As always, a productive conversation on bilateral cooperation and good insights into global politics.”

Meetings with US Officials

During his visit to Washington, Jaishankar also met with Phil Gordon, Assistant to the US President and National Security Advisor to the Vice President. He expressed appreciation for their conversation regarding bilateral ties and current global developments. Gordon remarked on the significant progress made in the US-India relationship, particularly in defense and technology cooperation, and they discussed regional security issues affecting the Indo-Pacific, Middle East, and Europe.

Earlier, Jaishankar met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, where they reviewed outcomes from recent bilateral and Quad meetings. They addressed deepening cooperation and various geopolitical issues, including developments in West Asia, the Indian subcontinent, the Indo-Pacific, and Ukraine.

Focus on Global Challenges

US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller stated that Blinken and Jaishankar reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and addressing regional and global challenges. Blinken highlighted India’s vital role in promoting peace globally, particularly following recent tensions, including the Iranian attack on Israel, which he deemed “totally unacceptable.”

Jaishankar expressed gratitude for facilitating meetings between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Biden, acknowledging the progress made in various areas during these engagements. He emphasized the importance of ongoing discussions to further enhance US-India relations while addressing pressing global issues.
