Dune 2 box office collection day 3: How much did Timothée Chalamet film earn on first Sunday?

‘Dune 2’, which hit screens on Friday (March 1), opened to a good response at the Indian box office and collected Rs 7.2 crore (nett) in the first two days. It continued its dream run on Sunday, March 3.

According to Akshaye Rathi, an exhibitor, the Hollywood biggie is expected to rake in  between Rs 5 crore and Rs 5.5 crore on its third day. The final figure, however, will depend on the occupancy during the evening shows.

“Dune 2 is doing very well in its intended market. Saturday was bigger than Friday. And now the first Sunday will be bigger than the previous day. The Sunday collection will be between Rs 5 crore and Rs 5.5 crore. The bulk of the revenue is coming from the urban centres and the Imax format,” he told ‘The Daily Guardian’.

However, the film isn’t doing great business in mass centres. Rathi feels this can be attributed to the fact that ‘Dune’ is “not an established brand” in India.

“Marvel films are a known entity here. This also applies to the Fast Saga. However, Dune is not an established brand in the Indian context. It caters to those familiar with first film. So, it has not penetrated the mass centres. That said, the situation can change if a few more installments release and the producers market them aggressively,” he added.

‘Dune 2’ doesn’t face much competition from ‘Article 370’ as the audiences don’t overlap.  ‘Kaagaz 2’ and ‘Laapataa Ladies’ are unlikely to affect it as they are smaller films for a niche audience. Similarly, ‘Operation Valentine’ has not lived up to expectations.

‘Dune 2’, a sequel to the 2021 blockbuster Dune,  revolves around the protagonist’s attempts at waging a war on his rivals.

According to IMDb its synopsis reads: “Paul Atreides unites with Chani and the Fremen while seeking revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family.

The film features Timothée Chalamet in the lead and is his first release after ‘Wonka’. The cast includes Josh Brolin, Zendaya, and Dave Bautista.

‘Dune 2’ is currently playing in theatres worldwide.
