Donald Trump has a license to carry a gun in New York, but it is expected to be revoked following his conviction on 34 felony counts in Manhattan. The former president’s concealed carry license was already suspended last year, and unless he files a legal petition, it will “likely” be revoked by the NYPD, according to the New York Post. Both New York state and federal laws prohibit convicted felons from possessing firearms. Consequently, Trump has been ordered to surrender all weapons to authorities by his sentencing on July 11.

How might Donald Trump go about retaining ownership of his firearms?

Trump’s only potential way to retain his weapons is by applying for a certificate of relief from civil disabilities. However, his legal team has not yet filed this petition.

Details of Trump’s license are not available in public records because his gun license application included a request for confidentiality. He might also retain his weapons if his felony convictions from the hush money trial are overturned by an appeals court.

Before his license was suspended last year, Trump surrendered two of his guns to the NYPD. A third gun was “lawfully moved to Florida,” as reported by CNN.

Possessing the third gun could lead to further trouble for Trump following his felony conviction.

Convicted felons have the option to transfer their weapons to a local police precinct or legally transfer ownership to another individual.

In the past, Trump mentioned in a French magazine that after several terror attacks in Paris in 2016, he ensured he always carried a weapon. “I always carry a weapon on me,” he said. “If I’d been at the Bataclan [concert hall] or one of those bars, I would have opened fire.”
