The Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA) has urged Union Health Minister JP Nadda for immediate action following the brutal murder of a second-year postgraduate resident doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College in Kolkata. The victim, a trainee in chest medicine, was discovered semi-nude in a hospital seminar hall on Friday. Initial reports indicate she was sexually assaulted, strangled, and smothered to death.
FORDA’s letter highlighted severe security lapses at medical institutions, demanding a thorough, transparent investigation and strict action against those responsible. They also urged the swift implementation of the ‘Central Protection Act for Doctors’ to ensure safety.
The association warned of a potential nationwide medical services shutdown if their demands are not addressed promptly. The Kolkata Police have arrested one suspect and formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate further.
