Keir Starmer on Friday made his maiden speech as British PM hours after being appointed for the role by King Charles III. Starmer, whose party secured 411 seats in the recently held UK General Elections thanked the outgoing PM Rishi Sunak for his services. Furthermore cherishing his victory, he said, “Now our country has voted for change.”
“This wound, this lack of trust, can only be healed with actions, not words. We can make a start today. Public service is a privilege,” Starmer said standing at 10 Downing Street in London. “Whether or not you’ve voted for Labour, we will show you that politics could be a force for good. We’ll show that.”
The Labour Party leader also asserted that his government will focus on rebuilding Britain and wealth will be created in every community. “Country first, party second,” he said. Further in his speech, Starmer emphasized that brick by brick, the new government will rebuild the opportunity. “You have a government unburdened by doctrine, guided only by a determination to serve your interest,” he assured the people of Britain.
