The government has introduced new measures to address Delhi weather issues related to waterlogging complaints in the city. Residents facing waterlogging problems can now contact the Public Works Department’s (PWD) Common Control Room at 1800110093. Additionally, Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj announced that complaints can also be filed via WhatsApp by messaging 8130188222.

The India Meteorological Department reported that the Safdarjung observatory recorded 234.5 mm of rainfall between June 1 and June 28, the third-highest in 124 years. Minister Atishi highlighted that Delhi received 228 mm of rain in just 24 hours, leading to overflowing drains and increased waterlogging, particularly in South Delhi.

Steps Taken By Delhi Government

To combat waterlogging, the Delhi Jal Board has been instructed to purchase one Recycler machine for each of the 11 locations in the city to clear large-scale blockages. The sewer department has also been asked to arrange contract labor for sewer cleaning. Bharadwaj noted that the lack of stormwater drains is causing water to flow out of sewer lines, posing a risk of blockages.

The Delhi government has also mobilized traffic police, local councilors, and MLAs to identify waterlogged areas. The Chief Secretary has been tasked with coordinating with relevant departments to resolve these issues. Quick Response Teams will be formed across all departments, and a PWD Control Room will be operational 24/7 with officers on duty around the clock. All departmental pumps will be checked by 10 pm each night to ensure they are functioning properly, and mobile pumps will also be reviewed.

Full Refunds For Cancelled Flights

The central government has announced the establishment of a 24/7 War Room under the Ministry of Civil Aviation to ensure passengers receive full refunds for canceled flights or alternative travel route tickets. Refunds will be processed within seven days. Contact details, including phone numbers for immediate assistance, will be provided to passengers.
