The Delhi Police has reached out to the company responsible for installing CCTV cameras at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence to obtain footage related to an incident where party MP Swati Maliwal was allegedly assaulted, sources reveal.
There are eight cameras installed outside Kejriwal’s house. Approximately ten police teams are investigating the incident, with four teams focused on locating the accused, Kejriwal’s personal secretary, Bibhav Kumar, who is reportedly in Punjab. Teams from the North District and other units have begun their inquiries, sources said. The initial step for the police is to create a timeline of events, establishing the sequence of activities on the day Maliwal was assaulted. The investigation includes verifying the time Maliwal arrived at the Chief Minister’s House on May 13 and recording statements from everyone she encountered at the gate. Maliwal reportedly took a cab to the CM’s residence on May 13, and the police will also record the cab driver’s statement.
Statements from all individuals who met Maliwal at the CM House will be recorded. An FIR was filed by the Delhi Police at the Civil Lines police station on Thursday regarding the alleged assault on the AAP Rajya Sabha MP. Maliwal has accused Bibhav Kumar, the Chief Minister’s personal secretary, of assaulting her. Maliwal’s statement will be recorded before a magistrate under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code. This section allows a magistrate to record statements or confessions during a police investigation. Maliwal made a PCR call from the Chief Minister’s House at 9.34 pm on May 13.
The police may issue a notice to Bibhav Kumar, requesting his participation in the investigation, sources added. According to the FIR, Maliwal alleged that she was slapped, hit on the stomach, attacked, and kicked by Bibhav Kumar at the Chief Minister’s residence. The FIR includes charges under sections 354, 506, 509, and 323 of the IPC, covering offences such as assault or criminal force with intent to outrage a woman’s modesty, criminal intimidation, and physical assault.
