A plea seeking its intervention and direction to declare the current election process for 6 members of the Standing Committee to the MCD as “null and void,” has been moved in before the Delhi High Court.

A petitioner Sharad Kapoor, who is associated with BJP, and who also contested the MCD councillor election went before the HC through a plea stating that the Mayor has betrayed the mandate of the Constitution.

He claimed that the Mayor betrayed as he allowed mobile phones and pens in the election proceedings of the 6 members of the standing committee despite the mobile phones and pens being explicitly barred in the election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor.

The plea further stated that the Municipal Secretary has explicitly said that the elections can not be conducted as there are only 245 ballot papers, which are short as they required around 250 ballot papers. The Bench of Justice Purushainder Kumar Kaurav  listed the matter for February 27, 2023.
