Amid a severe water shortage in Delhi, the city government has appealed to the Supreme Court for additional water supply from Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh for a month. Several areas in Delhi, such as Chanakyapuri’s Sanjay Camp and Geeta Colony, are experiencing acute shortages. Residents in these areas endure long queues in the scorching heat, hoping to fill at least one bucket, as water tankers fail to adequately serve the large populations.
This water crisis coincides with soaring temperatures in the national capital, with the maximum temperature nearing the 50 degrees Celsius mark and the minimum temperature around 30 degrees Celsius, which is 2.8 degrees above normal.
The weather office has predicted that heatwave conditions in Delhi will persist for the next few days and has advised people to “minimise exposure to heat and stay hydrated.”
