The National Investigation Agency (NIA) was granted eight days’ custody of Amritpal Singh alias Ammy and Amrik Singh by Delhi’s Patiala House Court on Friday. They are allegedly linked to Arshdeep Dhalla, a terrorist based in Canada, and the Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF).

They were arrested on Friday at the IGI Airport in Manila, Philippines, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Amendment Act, 2019 (UAPA).

Special judge Shailendra Malik granted both accused eight days in custody to be questioned in connection with their alleged involvement in the recruitment of youth for the KTF, as well as the smuggling and procurement of arms and ammunition and raising funds for the organization.

“The agency sought 12-day custody of both accused persons,” sources said.

The hearing took place in a closed courtroom. The NIA Court issued non-bailable arrest warrants against the accused in a case involving the unlawful and violent activities of banned organizations in India.

In addition, several criminal cases have been filed against them in Punjab. On August 20, last year, the NIA filed a suo moto case under various sections of the IPC and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

According to the NIA, they are associated with Arshdeep Dhalla and are involved in the recruitment of youth for the KTF as well as the smuggling and procurement of arms and ammunition.
