At least 14 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been dispatched in West Bengal to aid in rescue and relief operations considering the landfall of cyclonic storm Remal, NDRF said.
According to the IMD, Cyclone Remal is expected to make landfall at midnight between the coasts of Bangladesh and the adjacent region of West Bengal today.
Previously Prime Minister Narendra Modi led a high-level meeting to evaluate the response and preparedness for Cyclone Remal, which is anticipated to make landfall tonight. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclone is expected to strike the area between the coasts of Bangladesh and adjacent West Bengal around midnight.
Earlier today, the IMD warned of heavy rainfall, strong winds, and potential flooding in the areas likely to be impacted by Cyclone Remal. Authorities have urged residents to stay indoors and adhere to safety guidelines to avoid any accidents.
