In Kolkata, West Bengal, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) scientist Somenath Dutta has provided an update on cyclone ‘Remal’, indicating its trajectory and potential impact on the region. According to Dutta, over the past six hours, cyclone ‘Remal’ has been moving northward in the North Bay at a speed of 13 km/hr. As of now, it is positioned southwest of Khepupara, Bangladesh, with windspeeds ranging between 95 to 105 km/hr.

The IMD forecasts that the cyclone will continue its northward movement, with a projected trajectory to cross the region between Sagar Island and Khepupara around midnight. Dutta further warned that the maximum windspeed during this period is expected to reach 110 to 120 km/hr, with gusts up to 135 km/hr.

As cyclone ‘Remal’ advances, authorities in affected areas are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure the safety of residents. The IMD’s alert serves as a timely reminder for residents to stay informed about the cyclone’s progress and adhere to any evacuation orders or advisories issued by local authorities.

With the potential for strong winds and heavy rainfall, residents are advised to secure their belongings, avoid venturing into coastal areas, and stay indoors until the cyclone passes. Additionally, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea during this period to avoid any untoward incidents.

As cyclone ‘Remal’ intensifies and approaches land, continued monitoring and updates from the IMD will be crucial in facilitating preparedness and response measures to mitigate its impact on vulnerable communities along the coast.
