As Cyclone Dana made landfall in Odisha, triggering a massive storm surge and heavy rainfall, the northeast region is expected to experience light to moderate rainfall on Friday, according to weather experts.

“Apart from overcast skies and light rainfall, there is no cautionary advisory for tomorrow (Friday) in the northeast region,” said KN Mohan, head of the regional meteorological centre of IMD.

On Thursday, the IMD forecast sporadic thunderstorms and lightning over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura for Friday and Saturday, with isolated rains in Arunachal Pradesh, followed by a diminishing trend thereafter.

Authorities mentioned that the storm is very likely to move north-northwestward and cross the north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island, close to Bhitarkanika and Dhamra, as a severe cyclonic storm with wind speeds of 100-110 km/h, gusting up to 120 km/h, after midnight on Thursday.

Guwahati and its surroundings experienced a cloudy sky with light rain on Thursday. Met officials, however, said that the weather is expected to improve by Friday. The IMD has predicted generally cloudy skies with light rain over Guwahati and its neighbourhood in the next 24 hours.

The maximum and minimum temperatures are most likely to be 27°C and 23°C, respectively.
