A Phillaur court granted bail to Khadoor Sahib MP and Sikh radical leader Amritpal Singh’s brother Harpeeet Singh and his accomplice Lovepreet Singh on Thursday after they were detained with 4gm of “ice” (crystal methamphetamine).
On July 11, Harpreet, a resident of Jallu Khera village in Amritsar district, was detained on the Jalandhar-Panipat national highway near Phillaur carrying 4gm of “ice”.
He was caught red-handed while ingesting drugs with his accomplice Lovepreet Singh of Cheema Bath village.
On July 12, the court of the judicial magistrate (first class), Phillaur, ordered Harpreet and Lovepreet, against whom a case under sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act had been registered, to judicial custody for 14 days, but the sessions court later granted both accused two days of police custody after Jalandhar police filed a revision petition in court.
On July 11, police intercepted a car parked on the highway near Phillaur in the Jalandhar district. The cops found 4gm of “ice,” a digital weighing scale, three mobile phones from Harpreet and Lovepreet, a lighter, a half-burnt ₹20 note, and foil sheets during the search.
The accused admitted for transferring ₹10,000 digitally to Ludhiana-based drug dealer Sandeep Arora and purchasing drugs for personal usage. According to early medical reports, both Harpreet and Lovepreet’s drug tests were positive.
