Congress unveils ‘Nyay Patra’ manifesto, vows full statehood for J&K

The Congress party unveiled its election manifesto, titled ‘Nyay Patra’, on Friday, outlining a series of promises aimed at addressing critical issues and concerns across the nation. Among the key highlights of the manifesto is the assurance of granting full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, marking a significant shift in the party’s stance on the region.
“We will immediately restore full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir,” stated the Congress party in its manifesto, reaffirming its commitment to addressing the aspirations of the people of the region.

In addition to the pledge on Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress manifesto includes several other significant promises. One such commitment is to pass a constitutional amendment aimed at raising the current 50 per cent cap on reservations for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC), as mandated by the Supreme Court.

Furthermore, the Congress party has vowed to conduct a comprehensive Socio-Economic and Caste Census across the nation. This census aims to provide detailed insights into the socio-economic conditions of various castes and sub-castes, enabling targeted policy interventions and welfare measures.

Addressing concerns over political defections, the Congress has proposed amendments to the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution. Under these proposed changes, defection – the act of leaving the original political party on which the MLA or MP was elected – would result in automatic disqualification from membership in the Assembly or Parliament. This measure aims to foster greater accountability and integrity in the political arena.

The release of the ‘Nyay Patra’ manifesto underscores the Congress party’s commitment to addressing key socio-political challenges and promoting inclusive development across the country. As the nation gears up for elections, these promises are expected to shape the discourse and influence electoral dynamics.
