The Congress has unveiled its lineup of campaigners for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Tripura, with the party’s national president Mallikarjun Kharge leading the charge. Notable figures such as Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are also featured prominently on the list of 40 campaigners for the Northeast state.

Other key figures include Congress general secretary KC Venugopal, former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh, and Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Singh Surjewala. The list, finalized on March 27, was officially disclosed on April 5 by Venugopal, as per sources within the party.

Previously, the Congress unveiled its manifesto named ‘Nyay Patra’ ahead of the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections, ensuring various promises including the implementation of a minimum support price (MSP) for farmers based on the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission.

The state’s general elections are set to occur in two phases, slated for April 19 and 26. Specifically, the West Tripura seat will undergo polling on April 19, while the East Tripura constituency is scheduled for April 26.

According to sources within the party, the Congress manifesto was crafted through extensive nationwide consultations and the collection of thousands of suggestions via email and the ‘Awaaz Bharat Ki’ portal.

The election manifesto of the Congress party centers around the concept of ‘Paanch Nyay’, which encompasses five pillars of justice: ‘Yuva Nyay’, ‘Naari Nyay’, ‘Kisaan Nyay’, ‘Shramik Nyay’, and ‘Hissedari Nyay’. It also outlines the commitments made by the party to the people as part of its electoral promises for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Rahul Gandhi’s commitment to conducting a nationwide caste survey is highlighted among the party’s election promises. The Congress has stated that if elected, it will undertake a nationwide Socio-Economic and Caste Census to document various castes and sub-castes along with their socio-economic status. Additionally, the party pledges to introduce a constitutional amendment aimed at lifting the existing 50 per cent cap on reservations for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs).

In March, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) convened to extensively discuss the party’s manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The meeting saw the participation of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former party presidents Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and several other leaders from the Congress party.

The Lok Sabha elections are slated to take place over seven phases, commencing on April 19. Vote counting is scheduled for June 4.
