Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge chaired the Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting on Monday to finalize candidates for Maharashtra. The meeting, attended by prominent Congress leaders including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Nana Patole, discussed 63 seats, and the next session is scheduled for October 25 in Delhi.

The party will also meet Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) partners in Mumbai to finalize the seat-sharing formula, as several seats remain unresolved for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly polls. Sources indicated that a consensus was reached on 51 out of the 63 seats discussed, and Congress is likely to field around 110 candidates.

Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress have been negotiating hard over several key constituencies, including those in Mumbai and Vidarbha, with disagreements over seats like Ghatkopar, Versova, and Dharavi. The MVA aims to resolve these issues in an upcoming meeting to secure a clear electoral strategy. The first list of candidates is expected to be released on October 23.
