Chhattisgarh: Heavy rainfall triggers flooding in Bemara district

On Friday, torrential rains drenched Chhattisgarh’s Bemara district, flooding numerous districts. Images from the rainfall-affected area showed the district’s Navagarh bus terminal swamped in water.

Traders were also seen leaving their stores in Navagarh. As a result of the rain, a dam broke in the district’s Nagpura village, flooding numerous dwellings.

Earlier, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that the monsoon will be typical across the country in September, following the country’s driest August since 1901. According to the IMD, rainfall over the country in September 2023 is predicted to be normal (91-109 percent of the Long-period average).

Based on statistics from 1971 to 2020, the LPA of rainfall over the country in September is 167.9 mm.
