The Election Commission, after announcing the Lok Sabha election schedule last month, stated that ‘vote-from-home’ facilities will be available for citizens above 85 years of age and for persons with disabilities in the Lok Sabha elections.

The commission announced that individuals with disabilities, who meet the 40 percent benchmark disability, are eligible to vote from home. Additionally, polling stations will be equipped with volunteers and wheelchairs, and transportation will be provided for persons with disabilities and senior citizens.

Uttarakhand is set to vote in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections on April 19, with all five Lok Sabha seats up for election.

Chamoli belongs to the Garhwal parliamentary constituency. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP secured all five seats: Tehri Garhwal, Garhwal, Almora, Nainital-Udhamsingh Nagar, and Haridwar. Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, has been actively campaigning to strengthen the position of BJP candidates. Last month, he conducted a roadshow in Tharali, Chamoli, with Anil Baluni, the BJP candidate for the Garhwal Lok Sabha seat.
