During his 2023 AgustD World Tour, following the release of his debut solo album “D-Day”, BTS member Suga, known for his candid personality, made a bold remark about the Grammy Awards that quickly caught the attention of fans. When asked about his thoughts on the prestigious awards ceremony by “The LA Times”, Suga didn’t hold back, calling the Grammys “local,” a comment that resonated with many of BTS’s devoted ARMYs.
His statement echoed a similar remark made by “Parasite” director Bong Joon Ho in 2020 when he referred to the Oscars as “very local” in response to the lack of South Korean film nominations at the time. Suga’s comment stirred a frenzy among fans, who appreciated his straightforward approach, especially as BTS had received multiple Grammy nominations but never won.
Suga’s remarks came amid a period when BTS was preparing for their mandatory military service, with the group having recently performed at the 2022 Grammy Awards. The high-energy performance of their hit song “Butter” received a standing ovation, a moment that Suga later reflected on in an interview with “Weverse Magazine”. He shared the challenges the group faced during rehearsals, which included member Seokjin’s injury and Hobi and Jungkook being in quarantine. “The process of getting ready was extremely hectic,” Suga said, but despite the hurdles, it remains a memory he won’t forget.
As of now, BTS members Jin and J-Hope have completed their military service, while RM, V, Jimin, and Jungkook have finished around 60% of their mandatory duties. Suga, who is scheduled to be discharged in July 2025, will be the last member to return to the group.
