Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva launched a sharp critique against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, accusing it of neglecting educational institutions under its control. Speaking at a recent event, Sachdeva stated that 12 Delhi University-affiliated colleges, funded by the Delhi government, have reached a state of near collapse due to financial mismanagement and neglect.
Sachdeva emphasized that, despite AAP’s claims of promoting a world-class education model, the Kejriwal-led government has not established a single new college in the last decade. He pointed out that the 12 colleges inherited from previous administrations have been left in a state of disrepair, with administrative and academic standards deteriorating over time.
The Delhi BJP chief further highlighted that teachers and staff at these 12 colleges have faced ongoing issues with delayed and incomplete salary payments. He accused the AAP government of underfunding the colleges, stating that they require Rs 1,200 crore annually to operate effectively, but only receive Rs 400 crore in instalments. Sachdeva called this approach a facade, saying that the government gives the appearance of fulfilling its responsibilities while falling far short in practice.
Sachdeva also took aim at AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Atishi Marlena, accusing them of using each funding instalment as a political opportunity. “Every time they release budgeted funds in instalments, they hold a press conference, making it appear as if they are providing an extra grant,” Sachdeva remarked, criticizing the government’s handling of funds as political grandstanding rather than genuine support for higher education.
The comments from the BJP leader come amid increasing scrutiny of the AAP government’s handling of education in the capital, as debates over the condition of Delhi’s higher education institutions intensify.
