Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sajid Yousuf Shah expressed optimism ahead of the vote counting in Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the party holds high expectations from the people in the region.
In an interview with ANI, Shah claimed that opposition parties are only coming together for the sake of power, despite normally standing against each other. “We have high expectations from the people of Jammu and especially, Kashmir, so that BJP opens its tally in the Union Territory. Even after Farooq Abdullah created the Gupkar alliance, we see that all statements made by Mehbooba Mufti and her daughter were against NC. They need to clarify if they are together just for the sake of forming the government,” he remarked.

Shah also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for enabling the Legends League cricket match to take place in Kashmir after nearly 40 years. “Last night we saw international players in the valley. It is a perfect example of development and peace that such a big sporting event is being organised in the valley. Legends like Chris Gayle also came here. Manoj Sinha led administration and the PM Modi led central government have played a key role in making this possible,” he said.
Vote counting for the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as in Haryana, is scheduled for October 8. The elections in the valley took place over three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1.
According to the Axis My India exit poll, Jammu and Kashmir is predicted to have a hung assembly, with the National Conference-Congress alliance slightly ahead and the BJP following close behind. The poll suggests that the NC-Congress alliance could secure 35-45 seats, while the BJP might win 24-34 seats. The majority required to form a government in the Union Territory is 46 seats, and the projections indicate no party crossing this threshold.
