The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is all set to storm back to power in Madhya Pradesh, having taken a massive lead over its principal rival, the Congress. According to the Election Commission of India trends at 11 AM, the BJP was ahead in 150 of the 230, which is well above the half-way mark of 115. The Congress was way behind with only 78 leads while others were ahead in two other seats as counting continued across the state on Sunday (December 3, 2023).
Counting of votes in elections to the 230-member Assembly held on November 17, began at 8 am. The counting started with the postal ballots between 8 am and 8.30 am, after which the counting of votes through EVMs began in the presence of officials and political parties’ authorised agents.
In Budhni Assembly constituency, Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan of BJP is leading over Vikram Sharma of Congress by 13339 votes after two rounds of counting of votes for state assembly elections. In Chhindwara, Kamal Nath of Congress was leading over BJP’s Vivek Sahu by 5978 votes after two rounds of counting. In Indore-1 seat, BJP’s Kailash Vijayvargiya was leading over Sanjay Shukla of Congress by 4268 votes after first round of counting.
In Dimani, BJP’s Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar was leading over BSP’s Balveer Dandotiya by 2021 votes after two rounds of counting.
