Jammu and Kashmir Congress Legislature Party (CLP) Leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir on Wednesday strongly criticized the BJP-led government at the Centre for the downgrading and bifurcation of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, describing the move as “undemocratic” and “unconstitutional.”
Reacting to the resolution passed in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly seeking the restoration of the region’s special status, Mir emphasized that the Congress party had already voiced its opposition to the abrogation of Article 370 through a resolution passed by the Congress Working Committee (CWC) on August 5, 2019.
Mir further stated that the Congress has consistently endorsed the public resentment against the division and downgrading of Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the growing discontent among the people. He pointed out that during the Assembly elections, it was clear that the people of the region were vehemently opposed to the reorganization of the state and wanted their dignity and rights restored.
Mir stressed that the Congress Party remains firm in its stance, calling for the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, along with constitutional guarantees to protect the rights of its people, including land, jobs, cultural identity, and other resources. He called for these protections to be reinstated “without any further delay.”“The people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve dignity, security, and a sense of justice. It is time for the Centre to heed their demands and restore the state’s special status,” Mir added.
