BJP leader and former chief minister BS Yediyurappa revealed on Friday that the BJP and the JD(S) had formed an alliance for the upcoming Lok Sabha election in Karnataka in 2024.
The deal was for four seats, Yediyurappa said, adding that Amit Shah agreed to provide the JD(S) four Lok Sabha seats.
JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda recently met with BJP leader JP Nadda and Union home minister Amit Shah, and the meeting indicated that the BJP and the JD(S) will form an alliance; however, specifics were still lacking.
The JD(S) and the Congress created a coalition government, with HD Kumaraswamy as chief minister. The government was deposed after losing a trust vote a year after taking office.
According to media sources, the JDS planned to run in Mandya, Hassan, Tumakuru, Chickballapur, and Bengaluru Rural. The BJP agreed to let it to run in four seats: Kolar, Hassan, Mandya, and Bengaluru rural.
The action comes just days after Deve Gowda said that his party was not affiliated with the INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) or the NDA. Deve Gowda stated that the JD(S) would fight the Lok Sabha elections on its own.
