Australia made history by setting a world record for the most runs scored in a T20I powerplay during their commanding 7-wicket victory over Scotland in the first T20I. The match, held at Grange Cricket Club on Wednesday, was a thrilling display of boundary-hitting, captivating fans both at the ground and watching from home.

Australia amassed a staggering 113 runs in the powerplay, surpassing the previous record held by South Africa, who had scored 102 runs in their powerplay against the West Indies in 2023. The Australian openers, Travis Head and debutant Jake Fraser-McGurk, came out with aggressive intent while chasing a target of 155.

Fraser-McGurk’s debut did not go as planned, as he was dismissed for a duck by Brandon McMullen. However, Head took control, relentlessly hitting boundaries and making it difficult for Scotland’s fielders. Head’s innings was particularly explosive, scoring 20 runs off McMullen and then punishing Jack Jarvis by hitting three sixes and collecting 30 runs in the fifth over. Head’s remarkable performance included 80 runs off just 25 balls, featuring five sixes and 12 boundaries, before he was finally dismissed.

Josh Inglis provided the finishing touches with an unbeaten 27 off 13 balls, securing the win with more than ten overs to spare. Earlier, Scotland, after being put in to bat by Australia, scored 154/9 thanks to a collective batting effort.
