All roads in Assam are currently leading to the Meleng Meteli Field in Jorhat district, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address a massive public rally on Saturday.
As part of a whirlwind nationwide campaign, spanning 12 states over 10 days, PM Modi is presently on a two-day visit to Assam.
Stringent security measures have been implemented at the Jorhat ahead of his rally.
During his stay in the Northeast state, PM Modi will inaugurate several projects worth approximately Rs 18,000 crore and unveil the statue of the esteemed Ahom warrior and commander Lachit Barphukan at Lachit Maidam in Jorhat’s Hoollongapar on Saturday.
Ahead of the rally, thousands of beneficiaries of the state’s flagship ‘Lakhpati Baideo’ scheme have already gathered at the venue. Under the ‘Lakhpati Baideo’ initiative, women beneficiaries have the opportunity to earn up to Rs 1 lakh annually, with financial assistance of Rs 35,000 each being provided to an estimated 40 lakh women in the state.
Expressing their enthusiasm, one beneficiary remarked, “I am excited to see both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma share the same stage,” while another stated, “I have come a long way to attend PM Modi’s rally. We are all very excited.”
Earlier in the day, PM Modi enjoyed an elephant ride at Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and held a roadshow in Kaziranga on Friday, where locals gave him a warm reception with cultural performances.
Known as Assam’s pride, Kaziranga National Park boasts the largest habitat of rhinos, over 600 bird species, a flourishing dolphin population, and one of the highest tiger densities.
PM Modi’s visit to the BJP-ruled state for two days is considered crucial for the party’s ongoing campaign and preparations for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, expected to take place between April and May this year.
