Over four quintals of “ganja” (cannabis) were found in a truck at the Churaibari area near the Assam-Tripura border on Monday night, according to police reports released on Tuesday.
Prior to the truck being stopped by the police in Assam’s Karimganj district, the truck’s driver and cleaner were able to escape the scene.
“Police seized a total of 410 kilogrammes of marijuana worth Rs 41 lakh from the truck coming from Tripura side at Churaibari area during checking,” Churaibari police watch post incharge Niranjan Das said.
He stated that the recovered marijuana was kept secretly in the truck.
Further investigation was needed to establish the identity of the accused.
The truck was also seized, and the police are attempting to determine who owns it after confirming the truck’s registration number with the transport authorities in order to detain the suspects once they have been identified.
According to the appropriate parts of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) Act, a FIR was filed.
On September 23, Assam Police detained the suspect and recovered 270 packets of marijuana totaling 1,483 kg from a vehicle in the vicinity of the Gossaigaon Police Station in the Kokrajhar district.
