Assam is grappling with severe floods that have claimed 72 lives and displaced over 27.74 lakh people across 28 districts, officials confirmed on Tuesday. Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria highlighted the dire situation during his visit to Jaipur, emphasizing the region’s annual vulnerability to floods due to rivers like the Brahmaputra. He noted a higher casualty count and increased damage this year, with extensive infrastructure damage and numerous wildlife casualties reported at Kaziranga National Park. Rescue efforts involving multiple agencies, including NDRF and SDRF, are ongoing amidst ongoing challenges posed by the deluge.
