Army NCO Succumbs To Injuries Following Prolonged Kupwara Gunfight

Kashmir: An army non-commissioned officer (NCO) who was critically injured in a gunfight at Lolab in Kupwara has succumbed to his injuries in the hospital, officials confirmed.

A senior police official reported that the NCO, who was wounded during the firefight, could not recover despite extensive medical efforts.

The encounter commenced yesterday evening when a joint operation was launched by the police and the army in the general area of Kowut, based on specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists. The operation began with a cordon and search procedure, aiming to locate and neutralize the suspected terrorists.

As the search progressed, contact was established with the hiding terrorists early this morning, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire. The prolonged gunfight resulted in the critical injury of the NCO, who was subsequently evacuated to a hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries, despite the best efforts of medical personnel.

So far, one terrorist has been gunned down and the NCO was martyred in the ongoing operation. The area remains under tight security as the operation continues, with additional reinforcements being deployed to ensure the complete neutralization of any remaining threats.

Security forces are maintaining a vigilant stance, monitoring the situation closely to prevent any further escalation. The operation is ongoing, with efforts focused on ensuring the safety and security of the region’s residents while eliminating the terrorists presence.
