Actor Anupam Kher’s likeness to Mahatma Gandhi has taken an unusual turn, as scammers have replaced Gandhi’s image with Kher’s on counterfeit currency. Police in Gujarat seized fake currency notes totaling ₹1.60 crore, all featuring Kher’s face. This operation revealed the extent of the counterfeit scheme, which surfaced following the dismantling of a fake currency manufacturing unit in Surat, where four individuals were arrested on September 22.

Connection to ‘Farzi’ Series

According to Police Commissioner Rajdeep Nukum, the counterfeit currency operation appears to have been inspired by Shahid Kapoor’s series, “Farzi.” In addition to Kher’s image, the fraudulent notes featured the fictional “Resole Bank Of India” instead of the correct “Reserve Bank of India,” highlighting the amateur nature of the forgery.

Kher’s Response and Upcoming Projects

As of now, Anupam Kher has not commented on this bizarre situation. On the professional front, he is set to appear in Kangana Ranaut’s film “Emergency.” Initially scheduled for release on September 6, the film has faced challenges with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which has withheld certification pending cuts. During the last hearing at the Bombay High Court, the CBFC indicated that they would approve “Emergency” only if certain edits were made. The filmmakers have requested additional time to consider these changes, with the next court hearing planned for today, September 30.
