Australia head coach Andrew McDonald has revealed that captain Mitchell Marsh is fully prepared for the opening match of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Marsh had sustained a hamstring injury during his time with the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and has since been focusing on his recovery.

During a warm-up match against West Indies, Marsh primarily assessed his fitness level by fielding more actively. McDonald mentioned that Marsh looked comfortable and confident in his movements, indicating his readiness for the first game of the tournament. However, Marsh’s return to bowling may not happen immediately.

McDonald acknowledged that Australia’s squad integration was affected by players participating in the IPL, but they had planned for this scenario. The team management expected to have the full squad assembled by the start of June.

The T20 World Cup 2024 will mark Marsh’s debut as captain in an ICC event. Australia’s campaign begins on June 5 against Oman in Barbados, followed by matches against England, Namibia, and Scotland in Group B.

Australia’s squad for the T20 World Cup includes Mitchell Marsh, Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, David Warner, and Adam Zampa, with Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matt Short as traveling reserves.
