According to authorities, ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief Amritpal Singh was caught by Punjab Police from the Moga district of Punjab in a key breakthrough amid the ongoing manhunt.
Earlier on Saturday, when asked about Amritpal Singh’s arrest and the fact that he has been missing for a long time, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated, “It may happen sometime. He used to be able to travel freely, but now he is unable to continue his activities.” On April 18, two additional aides of fugitive radical preacher and Khalistan leader Amritpal Singh were apprehended in Mohali, Punjab, in a joint operation by Punjab and Delhi Police.
Joga Singh, his close aide, was detained on April 15 in Sirhind, Fatehgarh Sahib district, by Punjab Police.
Papalpreet Singh, another close associate of the pro-Khalistani commander, was apprehended on April 10 in an operation carried out by Punjab Police and its counter-intelligence section. Earlier this month, the extreme leader was labelled a “fugitive” while on the run.
Amritpal Singh, the leader of the Waris Punjab De, has been proclaimed a fugitive. His two automobiles were impounded, and gunmen were apprehended. We also examined to see if his security escorts’ rifles were legally obtained. A case has been opened. Amritpal Singh is being sought by the Punjab Police, and we are hoping that he will be apprehended shortly. The Punjab police issued a lookout circular (LOC) and non-bailable warrant (NBW) against the chief of ‘Waris Punjab De’ almost a month ago.
Amritpal has been on the run since the day Punjab Police launched a huge manhunt for him on March 18.
The crackdown occurred nearly three weeks after Amritpal’s supporters stormed Amritsar’s Ajnala police station on February 23, seeking the release of one of his aides, Lovepreet Toofan.
