Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader Nama Nageswara Rao on Tuesday emphasized the need for strict penalties against the spread of fake videos, citing the current controversy involving a fictitious video purportedly involving Home Minister Amit Shah, shared by the Telangana Congress.

Regarding Revanth Reddy’s summons in the Amit Shah fake video case, Nageswara Rao responded by stating, “I have heard about this, I am not aware of the details as of now. Nowadays, people depend more on social media. Serious action is required on the circulation of such fake videos.”

On Monday, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy received a summons from the Delhi Police concerning the fake video case implicating Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The Congress member has been called to appear before the Delhi Police’s IFSO unit (Cyber Unit) on May 1, along with his mobile phone, which allegedly facilitated the uploading of the fabricated video onto X.

On April 28, Home Minister Amit Shah lodged a complaint with the Delhi Police concerning the altered footage circulating on social media.
The video featured Home Minister Amit Shah discussing potential changes to reservation laws if the BJP returns to power.

Revanth Reddy, Telangana’s Chief Minister, has alleged that the BJP is influencing the elections by employing the Delhi police.
“So far, ED, CBI, and Income Tax were used by PM Modi and Amit Shah to win elections but today I got to know that Delhi Police has reached the office of Telangana Congress party. Someone posted something on social media and they have come to arrest the Telangana Congress president and Telangana CM. This means Narendra Modi is using Delhi Police to win elections now. No one is going to get scared, we will give you a befitting reply,” Reddy made the statement on Monday during a rally held in Kalaburagi, Karnataka.

The Telangana BJP unit had complained to the Cyber Crime police station regarding the fabrication and manipulation of an Amit Shah speech by TPCC President Revanth Reddy.

As per the accusation, the Telangana Pradesh Congress Party uploaded a fabricated or edited video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah on their X account.

Amit Shah said “Bharatiya Janata Party forms a government, then our government will cancel the unconstitutionally given Muslim reservations. In Telangana, SC/ST and OBC rights will be given, but Muslim reservations will be canceled.”
However, the president of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Party modified the identical video on his Twitter account to alter the statement as, “if the BJP party forms government, then the SC/ST and OBC reservations will be canceled,” it stated.

Meanwhile, on Monday, Assam police announced that they seized two mobile phones and a laptop as part of their investigation and detained an individual named Sri Reetom Singh.
