Union Home Minister Amit Shah has canceled his election rallies in Maharashtra due to the escalating violence in Manipur. The situation in the state has worsened, prompting Shah to return to Delhi.

Violent Protests Sparked by Killings in Manipur

The protests erupted after six civilians, including three women and children, were killed in Jiribam district. The violence has led to angry mobs targeting politicians’ homes, including those of BJP and Congress members. Security forces are struggling to maintain order.

Violence Escalates on Saturday Night

On Saturday night, the violence intensified. Despite a curfew, protesters attacked the homes of three state ministers and six legislators. The mobs set fire to properties and caused extensive damage, though the families of the legislators were not home at the time.

Politicians’ Homes Targeted

Protesters targeted the homes of several key politicians, including Minister Govindas Konthoujam and MLAs Y Radheshyam, Paonam Brojen, and Th Lokeshwar. The mobs set the houses on fire and vandalized them. The homes were partially burned in the attacks.

Clashes Near CM’s Residence

In a separate incident, protesters tried to storm the ancestral home of Chief Minister N Biren Singh. Security forces, including the Assam Rifles and BSF, used tear gas and rubber bullets to prevent the crowd from reaching the CM’s residence. However, protesters continued to block roads, setting tyres on fire and placing obstacles in the streets.
