A woman in Ahmedabad has shared a troubling account of alleged sexual harassment by a Zomato delivery agent. The incident, which occurred late Tuesday night, was detailed in a now-protected post on social media platform X.
The woman had ordered coffee amid heavy rain and experienced a delay in the delivery. Although she understood the situation and did not mind waiting, the delivery agent, identified as Shwetang Joshi, was reportedly apologizing repeatedly and smiling in a way that made her uncomfortable. The situation took a disturbing turn when Joshi allegedly pointed to his injured foot and, when the woman shone her flashlight on it, exposed his genitals. According to the woman, Joshi laughed and mockingly said, “Mam, please help krdo (Please help me).”
Upon reporting the incident to Zomato, the woman was disappointed with the company’s response. She noted that the customer service team suggested waiting for further notice instead of taking immediate action. “Who in their right mind would bother connecting with Zomato customer care at 1 AM in the morning, not asking for a refund or anything? I just wanted actions to be taken right away. But being a woman, to be asked to ‘wait till further notice’ is disgusting and invalidating,” she expressed.
Later, Zomato did reach out and took necessary steps, including the termination of the delivery agent’s job. Despite these actions, the woman continued to feel unsafe and expressed concern over the possibility of the driver returning to her address. She acknowledged having legal support but remained apprehensive about her safety.
This incident adds to the growing list of sexual harassment cases and underscores the need for enhanced safety measures for women across various services.
