Afghanistan has recently appointed former West Indies cricketing legend Dwayne Bravo as the Bowling Consultant for their national team ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, which is set to commence on June 1 in the USA and the West Indies.

Bravo, renowned for his prowess as a right-arm medium-fast bowling all-rounder, with 6423 runs and 363 wickets to his name, Bravo boasts of an impressive international cricketing career adding significant value to Afghanistan’s cricketing endeavors.

Expressing confidence in Bravo’s capabilities, Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) had also highlighted his outstanding record of 625 wickets in T20 cricket, making him the format’s leading wicket-taker.

Beyond his cricketing prowess, Bravo is celebrated for his entertaining style of play and has secured numerous titles, which include, the Champions Trophy, T20 World Cup, IPL, and CPL.

Further underscoring as a coach, Bravo’s recent stint as the bowling coach for the Chennai Super Kings in the 2024 Indian Premier League, also prove, that how good of a coach he is.

Meanwhile, as part of their preparations for the prestigious tournament, Afghanistan’s national team, led by star spinner Rashid Khan, has embarked on a 10-day training camp in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Under Bravo’s guidance, the team aims to fine-tune their skills and strategies ahead of their opening match against Uganda on June 4 at the Providence Stadium, Guyana.

Moreover, ahead of the tournament, ACB has announced a 15-player squad, with Rashid Khan appointed as captain. Notably, Hashmatullah Shahidi, who previously led the team, has been omitted from the squad, thus marking a drastic shift in Afghanistan’s lineup.

Afghanistan Squad: Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Ibrahim Zadran, Azmatullah Omarzai, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Ishaq, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Karim Janat, Rashid Khan (c), Nangyal Kharoti, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Naveen-ul-Haq, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Fareed Ahmad Malik.
