Police in Mumbai have detained a 57-year-old tailor from the city’s eastern suburbs for allegedly raping and impregnating a 15-year-old girl, they said on Friday.
The tailor reportedly threatened the woman, warning her not to reveal the assault to her family members. The situation finally came to light when her family discovered the girl was pregnant.
A police officer stated that the kid went to the accused to get her garments mended in November of last year. Subsequently, the accused summoned the victim to his shop multiple times under the guise of taking her measurements, and each time he forced himself on her. He also threatened to harm her family members if she brought the situation to their attention.
A rape case was filed against the accused under the Indian Penal Code and parts of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. The accused appeared in court and was placed on police remand.
