In a significant crackdown on the long-standing illicit liquor trade, Delhi Police apprehended a 29-yearold woman for selling illegal liquor near Jhuggi in Lallu Park, Zakhira. The arrested woman, identified as Santra, was caught red-handed with 100 quarter bottles of illicit liquor (Motta Masaledar sharab, which is legally sold only in Haryana). During interrogation, Santra revealed that she had acquired the liquor from the border area of Faridabad, Haryana, intending to distribute it locally. However, she was intercepted by vigilant police officers. She further explained that her large family and insufficient income drove her to engage in this illegal activity.

Santra disclosed that she typically purchased the liquor from Haryana’s border areas for Rs. 1200 per carton and sold it in retail to residents and passers-by to earn a profit. Additional questioning uncovered that Santra was previously involved in a case under the Excise Act, registered at PS Sarai Rohilla, Delhi. The incident came to light on the night of August 31 when a police team, led by SI Devender Antil (In-charge Police Post Inderlok), was conducting evening patrols under the supervision of Inspector Vikas Rana (SHO/PS Sarai Rohilla) and Jitender Patel, ACP/Sub-Division. At approximately 9:50 PM, while patrolling near Jhuggi in Lallu Park, Zakhira, the police team observed 8-10 people gathered in front of the Jhuggi. Upon seeing the police, they dispersed, and a woman with a white plastic bag attempted to flee but was apprehended by the police. Upon questioning, the woman was evasive about her presence and the contents of the plastic bag. A subsequent search
revealed that the bag contained 100 quarter bottles of illicit
liquor.
