A 27-year-old E-rickshaw driver was fatally stabbed to death near the Sarai Kale Khan metro station in Delhi on Wednesday.
According to police, the victim identified as Rohit, was taken to AIIMS but was declared dead on arrival. Despite the murder taking place in a crowded area, no one stepped forward to rely on their eyewitness testimony to the authorities.
“Finding no witnesses to corroborate the incident, police deployed its local informants in the area to find the suspect’s whereabouts,” said DCP (Southeast) Rajesh Deo.
Later, police received the information that, the suspect was a history-sheeter named Mohammad Javed. He was subsequently arrested on Thursday from Uttar Pradesh.
His blood-stained clothes and weapon were also recovered. Police said the 35-year-old has several cases registered against him, ranging from violent robbery, murder and rape along with POSCO and Arms Act.
During questioning, the suspect told the police that the victim used to tease him with a woman’s name whom he considered his sister. Javed allegedly asked Rohit to stop.
On Monday, the matter escalated and Rohit allegedly slapped Javed. Feeling humiliated and enraged, Javed took a knife along with him the next time he met Rohit.
On Wednesday, when Rohit proceeded to tease him again. Javed allegedly stabbed Rohit repeatedly, killing him, said the Police.
Javed has been booked under IPC section 302, said the police.
