Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha reported on Saturday that torrential rains, which began on August 19, have resulted in at least 24 deaths and left two people missing. The severe rainfall has affected all eight districts of Tripura, causing extensive damage, including road blockages and widespread water-logging. Chief Minister Saha, who described the rainfall as unprecedented, noted the challenges in accessing affected areas due to the damaged infrastructure.

Saha shared that he has personally visited several of the hardest-hit areas, using a helicopter to survey the damage and inspecting relief camps. He also emphasized the importance of continuous medical support in these camps and confirmed that doctors are following his instructions to provide necessary care.

The Chief Minister expressed concern that the death toll could rise as more information becomes available. He is maintaining regular contact with officials from various departments to monitor the situation and coordinate the response efforts.

In response to the disaster, flood victims have been relocated to government relief camps in Agartala for their safety and to ensure they receive essential services. Saha convened an all-party meeting at the State Guest House to discuss the flood situation and to gather input from various political representatives. He briefed them on the government’s ongoing response efforts and encouraged their collaboration in addressing the post-flood challenges.

Saha assured that he is closely reviewing the situation daily and remains committed to coordinating a comprehensive response to the disaster.
