Following the Union government’s decision to deploy additional troops to tackle the ongoing situation after recent terror activities, Assam Rifles will now be redeployed in Jammu and Kashmir. Historically responsible for security in the North East, Assam Rifles will be aligned with the deployment patterns of other paramilitary forces across the country, marking a significant shift in the force’s mandate.
Assam Rifles will take on a role similar to that of Rashtriya Rifles, focusing on hinterland security. This strategic move is expected to strengthen the security grid from the border to the hinterland in the Jammu region, enhancing overall stability and security.
Earlier, the government had decided to deploy 2,000 BSF troops and special forces jawans of the Indian Army in the Jammu region to flush out terrorists active in Jammu and Kashmir.
