The Youth Congress Ernakulam district committee organized a protest march to the police commissioner’s office in Ernakulam to express their opposition to the arrest of Youth Congress state president Rahul Mamkootathil. The march, led by Lok Sabha MP Hibi Eden, commenced from the District Congress office on Saturday.

Several prominent leaders, including DCC President Muhammad Shiyas, MLAs K Babu, TJ Vinod, Anwar Sadath, Roji M John, Mathew Kuzhalnadan, Eldhose Kunnappilly, and other Congress leaders, participated in the protest. The Congress leaders alleged “political vendetta” as the motive behind Rahul Mamkootathil’s arrest.

Leader of Opposition in the Kerala Assembly and Congress leader VD Satheesan accused the Kerala police of injustice against the state’s youngsters. He referenced a recent incident in Kannur where a young girl was allegedly brutally attacked by the police at the Chief Minister’s request. Satheesan claimed that the Chief Minister appreciated an attack on Youth Congress members in Kannur, emphasizing a trend of alleged criminal activities.

Rahul Mamkootathil was apprehended on Tuesday for his role in the Secretariat march, organized by the Youth Congress to protest against purported injustices against its workers. The march aimed to condemn the assault on Kerala Students Union (KSU) workers during the Nava Kerala Yatra by activists from the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and the Chief Minister’s security personnel.

In response to the arrest, the Indian Youth Congress condemned the alleged attack on free speech and expressed disapproval of Mamkootathil’s arrest for peacefully protesting against the government’s actions. The statement accused the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Kerala of creating a “fascist administration” under the guise of a “free left” ideology.
