The Australians improved from 327/3 to 422/7 at the Oval on Thursday. Alex Carey was on 22 at the time of lunch, and Pat Cummins was on 2. Australia began the day with an overnight score of 327/3, led by unbeaten Steve Smith (95*) and Travis Head (146*). The pair got off to a good start on the second day, with Smith hitting two straight fours in the first over of the day to bring up his 31st Test century, his seventh in England.
